National strategy for controlling pollution caused by plastic waste

Objectives : |
Contribute to the preservation of public cleanness in cities, urban centers, public spaces, roads and beaches;
Encourage private sector involvement and the creation of small businesses for plastic collection and new sources of income;
Promote partnership with regional and local authorities to better control pollution caused by plastic waste ;
Promote and encourage recycling of collected materials;
Raise public awareness for a rational use of plastic bags and packages. |
Main directions of national strategy: |
Establishing a system of paid collection from April 2001 ;
Organizing actions of plastic waste separation and collection at source;
Creating labor teams for collecting used plastic packages;
Providing financial assistance to governorates and municipalities to organize collection campaigns of used plastic;
Implementing a comprehensive outreach program on several levels;
Implementing a partnership program with associations and organizations for field campaigns of volunteer work and awareness raising activities. |

7 operated by categories with special needs;
18 created in delegations with priority status to employment.
Number of enterprises created under mechanism 41: 36 (including 5 ensuring the cleanliness of the oases of Gafsa) ;
Number of recycling facilities under agreement with the agency: 110, including:
70 operated by higher education graduates;
34 employing individuals with special needs.
Number of small enterprises (collection, transportation and recycling of plastic waste) created by higher education graduates: 240;
Collected quantities in 2010: 14200 tons;
Collected quantities from the start of the activity in 2001 : 99 thousand tons.
