As part of environmental programs on fighting pollution caused by waste and with the support of the Clean Development Program of the World Bank and through the Carbon Fund established by the Kyoto Protocol, Tunisia signed two contracts for the sale of 50% of gas emissions from the Djebel Chakir landfill and others in the governorates of Bizerte, Nabeul, Sousse, Monastir, Kairouan, Sfax, Gabes, Medenine and Djerba island.

puce_flech_1_.jpgThe operation involves 3 million tons of gas which will generate around 21 million dinars to be used for the expansion of Djebel Chakir landfill, funding the closing and rehabilitation program of uncontrolled landfills and for implementing networks and for gas extraction and flaring in landfills.
