puce_flech_1_.jpgFailure to control disposal operations of all types of waste has led to the proliferation of uncontrolled landfills in inappropriate places (wadis, sebkhats, farm lands, disused quarries…). This situation led to polluting ecosystems and natural resources and deteriorating living conditions in border areas (foul odors, insect outbreaks, gas emissions…).

puce_flech_1_.jpgTo overcome these problems, and as part of a program to protect ecosystems and improve living conditions in cities, ANGED proceeded to close and rehabilitate uncontrolled landfills in the areas included in the program of landfills and transfer centers (governorates of Bizerte, Nabeul, Sousse, Monastir, Kairouan, Sfax, Gabes, Medenine and Djerba island), on the basis of studies carried out to this end.
Program components
The program for closing and rehabilitating uncontrolled landfills includes the following actions :

puceorange.jpgClosing and rehabilitating 9 large uncontrolled landfills : «Cimenterie» in Bizerte, «El-Kantara» in Djerba, «Ghar Ettfal» in Nabeul, «Beni Wael» in Hammamet, «Ezzouhour» in Sousse, «Rmila» in Hammam Sousse, «Gazzeh» in Monastir, «Thyna» in Sfax and «Dissa» in Gabès  ;

puceorange.jpgClosing and rehabilitating small and medium uncontrolled landfills (around 140) ; improving the present state of municipal landfills and contributing to the elimination of dark spots in cities ;

puceorange.jpgTo this end, a budget of 18 million dinars was included in the 11th Development Plan, of which 10 million dinars are funded by the World Bank.
