puce_flech_1_.jpg      The national program of waste management provides for the combination of various components for the management of Special Industrial Waste:

puce_flech_1_.jpg Many sectors make producers directly responsible of the disposal and recycling of their damaged goods. A few special industrial wastes have been subjected to this form of management.

puce_flech_1_.jpg For other special industrial wastes with large quantities and higher management risks, Tunisia is looking for specific and individual solutions, such as:

pusvert.jpg For the large quantities of phospho-gypsum from the production of phosphoric acid: mono-landfills run by the producing industry itself, are planned;

pusvert.jpg For the large quantities of black liquor, a residual sludge waste from olive oil production : biological treatment is planned, followed by drying through open-air evaporation and finally disposal in landfills. Farm spreading of the sludge is also being considered.

pusvert.jpg Large stocks of damaged pesticides and PCB from former transformers are to be disposed of with financial assistance programs of the World Bank. Wastes will be exported for high temperature incineration; a technology not available in Tunisia.

pusvert.jpg Healthcare waste requires sterilization pre-treatment before disposal in landfills.

puce_flech_1_.jpg For all other wastes, a total of around 150 thousand tons per year, Tunisia has implemented an investment program in cooperation with the German Development Bank (KfW). The project in the framework of this program includes a treatment plant for special industrial waste in the area of Jradou in the governorate of Zaghouan, and 3 facilities for Reception, Storage and Transfer in the North (Bizerte), the Center, (Sfax) and the South of Tunisia (Gabes).

puce_flech_1_.jpg The total capacity of the four facilities is of 150 thousand tons per year.
It is distributed among facilities as follows:

pusvert.jpg Jradou : 90 thousand tons
pusvert.jpg Bizerte : 30 thousand tons
pusvert.jpg Sfax : 18 thousand tons
pusvert.jpg Gabès : 12 thousand tons

Industrial waste accepted in the plant of Jradou :

All waste classified by decree no. 2000-2339 of 10 October 2000, establishing the list of hazardous wastes, except :

pusvert.jpg Radioactive materials;
pusvert.jpg Phospho-gypsum and black liquor;
