The National Agency for Waste Management ANGED is a public non-administrative institution set up under Decree No. 2005-2317 of 22 August 2005.
ANGED has a corporate status and a financial autonomy under the Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development.

5 landfills in Greater Tunis and towns of the Medjerda Valley (Beja, Jendouba, Siliana and Medjez El Bab), with a total cost of about 15 million dinars ;

Volume of waste transferred to landfills : around 750 thousand tons per year. Percentage of buried waste : 40% of total volume |
Projects achieved during the 10th Plan (2002-2006) : |
9 landfills and 45 transfer centers in the governorates of Bizerte, Nabeul, Sousse, Monastir, Kairouan, Sfax, Gabes, Médenine and Djerba island, with a total cost of about 70 million dinars ;
Coming into operation: 2007-2009 ;
Volumes of waste transferred to landfills : around 800 thousand tons per year. Percentage of buried waste : 85% of total volume |
Projects achieved during the 11th Plan(2007-2011) : |
10 landfills and related transfer centers in Greater Tunis and the governorates of Zaghouan, Mahdia, Tozeur, Sidi Bouzid, Gafsa, Kasserine, Beja, Jendouba, Le Kef, Siliana and Kerkennah islands, with a total cost of around 72 million dinars ;
Volume of waste transferred to landfills: around 500 thousand tons per year. Percentage of buried waste around the end of the Plan : 93% of total volume

Program to close and rehabilitate uncontrolled landfills :

Closing and rehabilitating 9 large uncontrolled landfills : «Cimenterie» in Bizerte, «El-Kantara» in Djerba, «Ghar Ettfal» in Nabeul, «Beni Wael» in Hammamet, «Ezzouhour» in Sousse, «Rmila» in Hammam Sousse, «Gazzeh» in Monastir, «Dissa» in Gabes and «Thyna» in Sfax ;
Closing and rehabilitating small and medium uncontrolled landfills (around 140), improving the current state of municipal landfills and contributing to eliminating dark areas in cities ;
To this end, a budget of 18 million dinars was included in the 11th development Plan , of which 10 million dinars are funded by the World Bank. |
| Management program of special industrial waste: |
Completion of the management center of special industrial waste at Jradou (governorate of Zaghouan) with a cost of around 32 million dinars. The management center of special industrial waste at Jradou was inaugurated on 5 June 2009 ;
Planned achievement of three facilities of Reception, Storage and Transfer (IRST) in the North (Bizerte), the Center (Sfax) and the South (Gabes) with a total cost of around 22 million dinars ;
These facilities will treat around 60% of industrial and special waste by 2011. |

Total number of small businesses (collection, transportation and recycling of plastic waste) set up by higher education graduates: 231 ;
Amounts collected from the start of the activity in 2001 : 85 thousand tons;
Creation of 15 to 18 thousand jobs. |
Collection activity of accumulators and used batteries: |
Enforcement of the mandatory deposit system of return of used accumulators in transportation and in other industrial areas started on 1st August 2009.
As to used batteries, collection continues in schools and large establishments in accordance with signed agreements in force. |
Collection and recovery activity of waste cooking oil: |

35 small businesses received specifications for collection of such waste and 4 companies were approved to establish units of primary treatment of such waste by filtration. |
