 Program of energy conversion of organic waste in rural areas :

 Under this program and in coordination with GTZ, the National Agency for Waste Management carried out a study on energy and environmental conversion of organic waste in rural areas in Tunisia with the aim of :
 Assessing earlier experiences carried out in the field of establishing anaerobic fermenting facilities in the Northwest of the country ;
Estimating the quantities of biogas that can be produced by anaerobic fermenting of organic waste from some farm lands and rural areas ;
Studying the economic and technical feasibility of developing facilities of anaerobic fermentation of organic waste.

According to the results of this study ANGED will carry out the following:
Maintenance of 14 anaerobic fermentation facilities of organic waste in Sejenane (governorate of Bizerte) during the period 1985 - 1990, in order to meet farmers’ needs such as cooking, lighting and hot water. It will be part of an agreement between the Agency and the Office of forest and grassland development in the Northwest for the execution and follow-up of works and periodic maintenance as well as awareness campaigns;
Establishing new facilities for anaerobic conversion of organic waste in some rural areas ;
A preliminary feasibility and profitability study of establishing semi-industrial facilities of anaerobic fermentation in some agricultural compounds under the control of OTD and for the benefit of some farmers wishing to join the activity under the Tunisian Union for Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP);
Establishing a digester in the sustainable school of Hjar Omar (governorate of Beja) to meet the school needs in lighting and heating. |
